ibeb-1-1Henry discovers his unusual taste by mistake one day, and is soon swept up in his new-found passion – gorging on every delicious book in sight! And better still, he realises that the more books he eats, the smarter he gets. Henry dreams of becoming the Incredible Book Eating Boy; the smartest boy in the world! But a book-eating diet isn’t the healthiest of habits, as Henry soon finds out…

Henry loved books but not like you and I loved books. He loved to EAT books!

It all happened by mistake. One afternoon, he tried to eat a single word, just to test. He liked it, he then ate up a complete sentence, a complete page and eventually the entire book. By the end of the month, Henry could eat up an entire book in one go. He loved to eat books of all sorts-from dictionaries to atlas to a joke book, he ate them all. He wasn’t fussy! And thus, Henry started eating at a fierce rate.

The more he ate, the smarter he got. Once he ate a book about a goldfish and at once knew what to feed his goldfish pet, Ginger. He managed to solve crosswords easily. He was also now smarter than his teacher at school.Henry loved being smart. In fact he thought, if he ate more books, he would perhaps be the smartest person on earth!

And so, he kept eating and smarter he became, until one afternoon. He felt sick and started turning green. And greener.

Henry had been eating too many books, with too little time to digest them! He now felt embarrassed to speak. He didn’t feel smart anymore. A lot of people told him to stop eating books and thus he stopped. But now, Henry felt lost. He didn’t know what to do because eating books was all he did the entire day. Downcast, he sat on his bed. A half-eaten book then caught his eye. He picked it up, but instead of putting it in his mouth, he began reading it! And how lovely he was, how incredible it felt! It was then Henry realised that he loved reading and he could still be the smartest person on earth by reading books. It would only take a little more time!
